This year saw a major shift to working from home (WFH) out of a global health necessity.
While some people didn’t like it, or it just wasn’t practical, many of us did.
After all, there was no peak hour traffic, public transport and no need to put on that work attire (unless for a Zoom meeting).
Working from home had many employers think about the importance of flexible work settings and conditions and many people thankful for their existing home office or spare room.
It also had many of us in the property game, from property managers, real estate agents, tenants and home buyers alike think about how working from home may be added to property wish lists.

The working from home shift
Collaboration, communication and access to good internet proved many corporate folks could work from home, from administrators, accountants, engineers, to insurance personnel and even teachers!
Many companies across the world have embraced and integrated WFH as the new norm, like:
· Microsoft, and
· Twitter to name a few.
As our world moves continuously through and beyond COVID-19, the business world, the standard 9-5 and humble inner-city office may change as well.
Remote workers may be more commonplace and so the demand for a home where that’s possible is increasingly popular. Let the property management Perth specialists show you why.
The impact on renters, buyers and housing demand
Remote worker renters will be, or already are on the hunt for a ‘workplace home’. As such, there are different needs to ‘standard’ renters.
What does this mean?
· Integrating a connected home workspace into a standard property.
Due to how hurriedly WFH was introduced, many renters (and homeowners) were forced to work from their dining room table, breakfast bar, bed, couch or other make-shift set-up.
This isn’t suitable for long-term WFH options, especially for the occupational health and safety of workers, where areas need to be met, such as:
· Ergonomics,
· Sufficient working space, and
· Functional, proper lighting to remain healthy and efficient.
This means WFH renters and buyers will likely seek out a more suitable rental property.
What the shift could entail?
· Seeking properties with open plan living,
· Interest in 2, 3 or even 4-bedroom properties,
· Less focus on parking spaces if the occupant(s) WFH permanently,
· A shift from rentals and purchases in or near to CBD to more lifestyle suburbs, and
· Of course, fast, NBN connection or 5G internet connectivity.
All these points on the WFH wish list would apply for people wanting to buy a home to live in, too.
Now you just need to find the property that ticks all boxes.
