What we love about NORTH BEACH
North Beach was initially a descriptive name. This name is a result of the suburb being the most northerly among Perth's beaches at the time. It was first assigned by Charles Crossland, a surveyor who referred to Samuel Richard Hamersley’s pastoral leases as his “northern coast run”. In the 1860s, the suburb was used as a timber reserve. Later, it was used as a quarantine for camels arriving in the 1890s. The area was home to several orchards. Today, the only evidence is an olive tree that still stands on Hope Street.
Featuring great beaches to the west and Star Swamp - a natural bushland area - to the east. On the North Beach/Trigg border is Mettams Pool, a very popular kiddies (and oldies) beach because of its calm water - good for snorkelling too.
There is also the Charles Riley reserve for footy, cricket and athletics, plus tennis and bowls nearby. Theres a small shopping centre - West Coast Plaza - on North Beach Road, plus another small row of shops on Flora terrace and some smart townhouses opposite.
